Symmetry breaking between statistically equivalent, independent channels in few-channel chaotic scattering.

چکیده
We study the distribution function P(ω) of the random variable ω=τ(1)/(τ(1)+···+τ(N)), where τ(k)'s are the partial Wigner delay times for chaotic scattering in a disordered system with N independent, statistically equivalent channels. In this case, τ(k)'s are independent and identically distributed random variables with a distribution Ψ(τ) characterized by a "fat" power-law intermediate tail ~1/τ(1+μ), truncated by an exponential (or a log-normal) function of τ. For N=2 and N=3, we observe a surprisingly rich behavior of P(ω), revealing a breakdown of the symmetry between identical independent channels. For N=2, numerical simulations of the quasi-one-dimensional Anderson model confirm our findings.

Diamagnetic persistent currents and spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking in mesoscopic structures
Recently, new strongly interacting phases have been uncovered in mesoscopic systems with chaotic scattering at the boundaries. The new phases are the mesoscopic analogue of spontaneous distortions of the Fermi surface induced by interactions in bulk systems and can occur in any Fermi-liquid channel with angular momentum m. Here we show that the phase with m even has a diamagnetic persistent cur...
متن کاملDistribution of proper delay times in quantum chaotic scattering: a crossover from ideal to weak coupling.
The probability distribution of the proper delay times during scattering on a chaotic system is derived in the framework of the random matrix approach and the supersymmetry method. The result obtained is valid for an arbitrary number of scattering channels as well as arbitrary coupling to the energy continuum. The case of statistically equivalent channels is studied in detail. In particular, th...

It has recently been shown theoretically that elastic scattering in the Fermi sea produces quantum mechanically entangled states. The mechanism is similar to entanglement by a beam splitter in optics, but a key distinction is that the electronic mechanism works even if the source is in local thermal equilibrium. An experimental realization was proposed using tunneling between two edge channels ...

We study the nucleon-nucleon interaction in a chiral constituent quark model by using the resonating group method, convenient for treating the interaction between composite particles. The calculated phase shifts for the S1 and S0 channels show the presence of a strong repulsive core due to the combined effect of the quark interchange and the spin-flavour structure of the effective quark-quark i...
